TSEC3: Public Attitudes and Processes of Governance
A sustainable energy policy has multiple and at times conflicting objectives. This multiplicity of objectives requires a pragmatic approach to policy formulation; and public acceptance of the associated trade-offs can be a significant influence on policy effectiveness.
Our research in this area investigates and evaluates the political and social implications of trade-offs between, for example, maintaining security of supply and a resilient energy system, while developing market based mechanisms to incentivise investment in low-carbon technologies and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
TSEC 3 develops three themes:
- Public perceptions of energy supply
- Technological change, interest groups and political oversight of energy and electricity
- New structures for policy and regulation
