Research Interests: History of energy use; long-term relations between energy and economic growth; history of energy policy and prediction; energy embodied in trade flows.

Background: Paul Warde is a lecturer in environmental history in the History Faculty of the University of Cambridge. He was previously Professor of Environmental History at the University of East Anglia. He has published extensively on woodfuel and common pool resources in preindustrial Europe; energy history and the Industrial Revolution; and the history of economic and environmental thought. Current research includes studies of energy embodied in European trade flows since the 19th century, and drivers of efficiency improvements; and energy use in Arctic Canada and Scandinavia.
